In furtherance of his efforts to improve the standard of teaching at the basic education level., Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on Tuesday distributed Instructional materials to public primary schools in the State.
This was just as schools resume for the 2024/2025 academic session.
At the event held within the premises of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) State Secretariat, Ado-Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji described the distribution of the instructional materials which included textbooks, school diary, chalk boards, attendance register, continous assessment records and other tools was as a demonstration of government’s commitment to ensuring qualitative education at all levels through effective teaching and learning.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Dr Bimpe Aderiye, the Governor explained his administration considered the provision of essential reading materials in schools as important as having up-to-date and approved curriculum which the administration has ensured.
Expressing the hope that the materials will be put to maximum use of imparting knowledge on pupils and to achieve the desired result, the governor listed the provision of conducive environment for teaching and learning; adequate motivation of the work force as some of essential facilities already put in place for all-round success at all levels in the education sector.
The Executive Chairman, SUBEB in Ekiti State, Professor Femi Akinwumi who enumerated the successes recorded by Governor Oyebanji in the sector, explained that the instructional materials would be distributed to primary schools across the 38 local government and LCDAs in the state.
Professor Akinwumi stressed that the board is determined to see that all children have basic learning materials irrespective of status.
Goodwill messages came from the State Head of Service, Dr (Mrs) Folakemi Olomojobi, Commissioner for local government Affairs, Chief Folorunso Olabode and Information Commissioner, Chief Taiwo Olatubosun.
They affirmed that the move would further breathe a new lease of life in class interaction between teachers and pupils.
The Head of Service conducted the official registration of pupils into primary one class for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Receiving the materials, the Education Secretary of Ado Local Government, Mr Toyin Omotoso who spoke on behalf of other Education secretaries, appreciated Ekiti Subeb and state Government for the efforts to ensure universal basic education is achieved and assured of effective utilization of materials received.
They pledged their support to the State Government in facilitating academic activities at the basic education level across the state.
The event became more lively as the SUBEB Chairman, Professor Femi Akinwumi, SUBEB Commissioner in charge of Human Resources Management, Dr (Mrs) Funke Fajobi, Commissioner Project Management, Dr Kayode Adeoye, State NUT Chairman, Dauda Bamidele Olantani, Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Folorunso Olabode passed a vote of confidence for continuity of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration till year 2030; the declaration which was widely embraced through voice votes by all participants at the occasion.
