The Olukere of Odo Oja, Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Ganiyu Ayodele Obasoyin has alleged the Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu, of attempting to disrupt the longstanding peace in the community through an illegal Chieftaincy installation.
Speaking to Journalists at his palace, Oba Obasoyin claimed that the Ogoga installed one Mr. Adekunle Aregbesola as the Aladeselu of Odo Oja, an area he said that falls outside Ogoga’s jurisdiction.
He described the act as a violation of Ekiti State’s Chieftaincy laws.
According to Olukere, “I wonder why someone feels he is above the government, this type of scenario had played off sometimes ago that will took the case to the police and the State Deputy Governor who supervises the Chieftaincy Affairs. At the meeting was a reminder and directive from the Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye to Ogoga that he should not install any Chief as the State Government had given recognition and autonomy to Odo-Oja where Olukere presides as officially as the Oba in tune with the Chieftaincy Laws and Gazette.”
The Olukere further alleged that Oba Adu mobilized thugs and members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) to forcefully carry out the installation and intimidate residents of Odo Oja who opposed the move.
Surprisingly today again, we were amazed that Ogoga in defiant to government’s instruction illegally installed someone in his palace as a Chief from Odo Oja community. The illegal procession from Ogoga’s place to Odo Oja community our people were against as they described as absurd.'” said Olukere
According to Obasoyin, those thugs, allegedly supported by the Chairman of Ikere Local Government, Mr. Egbejoda Adamolekun, attacked his subjects, One of his chiefs was also reportedly assaulted and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
He appealed to the state government to intervene by cautioning the Ogoga against overstepping his bounds and to ensure the safety of the people of Odo Oja from what he described as coordinated attacks.
Meanwhile, a joint security task force has been deployed to the town to maintain law and order amid rising tensions between the two Royal fathers.
