Over 100 indigent students in Ikere Ekiti have received scholarship awards, while about 70 elderly citizens got cash gifts, courtesy of Pyramid Foundation.
The latest initiative, which also featured prize-giving for outstanding students, marked the 22nd edition in a series organized by the non-governmental organization that cares for the needy and less privileged in society.
The 22nd Annual Series of the Pyramid Foundation featured the presentation of scholarship cheques worth millions of naira to outstanding undergraduates of Ikere origin and students with the best results in JSCE, SSCE, and NECO, alongside awards for hard work and academic excellence.
Sixty indigent elderly citizens also received cash gifts for their upkeep.
In his remarks, the President and Founder of the Pyramid Foundation, Pastor Bolu Alabi, said the initiative stems from a desire to impact lives facing daily challenges.
The Ikere-Ekiti born US-based estate developer charged the beneficiaries to unlock their potentials, remain resilient, and strive for greatness in their chosen paths.
The Guest Lecturer and Dean of Student Affairs at the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, BOUESTI, Dr. Daramola Asoju, noted the rise in antisocial behavior linked to parental neglect and called on parents to instill traditional values for responsible upbringing.
Goodwill messages came from the Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu; former Ekiti Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka; TESCOM Chairman, Mrs. Rhoda Ojo; and Prof. J.O Ayodele, who commended Pastor Alabi and his wife, calling on other well-to-do indigenes to emulate the foundation’s efforts.
The National President of the Ikere Student Association, Master Benjamin Oluwamusanmi, made remarks on behalf of students, representative of the parent and beneficiaries, Madam Adesola Ayodele, also thanked the founder for his support.
Earlier, Board of Trustees Chairman, Mr. Adeyemi, said all beneficiaries were selected on merit.
