The suspended traditional ruler of Orile Ifo, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, has been remanded in a correctional centre in Ilaro, Ogun State, following his arraignment before the Ifo Magistrate Court.
The monarch, accused of assault, was denied immediate release after failing to meet the bail conditions set by the court.
He appeared in court on Tuesday to face a three-count charge brought against him by the Nigeria Police Force. The charges include conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
These charges stem from a widely circulated video that purportedly shows the monarch verbally and physically assaulting Areola Abraham, an elderly chief in his community.
In the disturbing video, which went viral on social media platforms, the suspended traditional ruler is seen berating Abraham, accusing him of conspiracy and threatening him with dire consequences.
During the court proceedings, the traditional ruler pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him.
