Traditional rulers in Ekiti State, under the aegis of Majority Obas of Ekiti land (MOBEL), last Thursday, 20th March 2025 held their monthly meeting in Ikere Ekiti where intellect, culture and tradition took the center stage for the good of their communities, Ekiti State and Nigeria as a whole.
The latest meeting hosted by the Olukere of Ikere, Odo-Oja, Ikere local government, Oba Ayodele Abdulganiyu Obasoyin (Okomolese II) had over 70 traditional rulers in their regalia across various towns in the state in attendance.
Olukere in his welcome address, Oba Obasoyin said, traditional rulers form an integral part of the society as they play prominent roles in community development.
He lauded the founding fathers of MOBEL for the unity among members of the Majority of Obas in Ekiti and for being responsive at promoting peace and progress in their domains, fostering unity and cordial relationship among all classes of Obas and working with the state government for peaceful administration in the state.
He thanked Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji and his Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye for giving traditional rulers the recognition they deserved.
He sought the continuous cooperation of his fellow traditional rulers with Governor Oyebanji’s government to get the best for their people and their respective communities.
“Governor Oyebanji(BAO) since inception of his administration has prioritize the welfare of Obas also ensure prevalence of peace and development of our various towns, I think there is the need for us to continue to cooperate with this People’s Friendly Governor as well as support his policies and programmes geared towards actualising his Shared Prosperity Agenda,” Olukere said.
He also called for more encouragement and constitutional recognition for the traditional institution in ensuring that they discharge their roles in achieving peace and security of the society.
The royal father expressed optimism that the montly meeting will go a long way to further illuminate the minds of both the Kabiyesis as they synergize with those in the political class for the overall development of the state and country.
The newly elected Chairman of Majority of Obas in Ekiti land, Ojurin of Ijurin Ekiti, Oba Joachim Adeyemi Afolabi noted that since the formation of MOBEL, “no month has passed without the association holding either executive or general meetings, workshops, conferences amongst others.
He added that “MOBEL is equally known as the only royal association in the state that holds annual end of year get-together for its members and their Oloris.”
Oba Afolabi also enjoined the Obas to continue to work in unity for the progress of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
