About 64 brilliant Junior Secondary School students have been presented with award prizes by a United States of America based Social cultural, Non-Profit and non-political Organization called: Ekiti Association Houston, Texas..
At the ceremony which was an annual event was held in Ado Ekiti, the State Capital, amidst dignitaries including the Chairman, Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs Rhoda Ojo, Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Dolamu, Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu, Ajero, Oba Adewole Adebayo, Parents and teachers of the award recipients as well as representatives of the Ekiti State indigenes resident in the Houston Metropolis.
The President, Ekiti Association Houston, Pastor Bolu Alabi said the 2024 edition was targeted at rewarding sixty four(64) students who had best results in the last Junior Secondary School Examinations in the 64 secondary schools spread across all the local council areas of the state or the best SSS 1 students in the 64 nominated secondary schools.
Pastor Alabi disclosed that the Association instituted the award as part of its contributions to the development of the education sector in the state, with a view to rewarding academic excellence among secondary school students, encourage healthy academic competition among Ekiti students and also assure brilliant and hardworking students that hard work still pays.
”Out of the abundant love that we have for Ekiti State, we are ever prepared to contribute our quota to the development of the state in various fields, including educational development.” said the Association President
He noted that as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the Association, related prizes had been extended to best graduating students in Ekiti State University, (EKSU) Ado Ekiti and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti (BOUESTI), with plans underway to spread the initiative to other higher institutions in Ekiti State in due course.
Pastor Alabi acknowledged the impacts of Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji in sectoral development and assured him of the Association’s prompt support.
The Ekiti Association Houston President, charged the beneficiaries of the 2024 award prizes to redouble their efforts towards a greater future. ”‘Excellence is never an accident, it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort and intelligent execution: it represents the wise choice out of many alternatives.’ The choices you make, not chance, will determine your destiny.” he said.
The Onisan, Oba Gabriel Adejuwon, Ogoga, Oba Adejimi Adu and other personalities in their goodwill messsages commended the efforts of members of the Ekiti Association in Houston, Texas for the initiative and urged the students to justify the largesse in their academics.
